PCS, leave & deployment travel
Moving on orders or traveling around a deployment comes with its own set of fee waivers and policies — if you know to ask for them. Here's what applies and the order to do it in.
PCS (Permanent Change of Station) travel
- Most major airlines waive or reduce fees for PCS moves when orders are presented.
- American, Delta, United, and Southwest all have formal PCS policies.
- Call the airline's military desk directly for oversized baggage, pet, and household-goods policies.
- Book through your installation's travel office first — they may have additional contracted rates.
Deployment & emergency travel
- Most carriers waive change and cancellation fees when deployment orders are presented.
- Future travel credits are typically issued rather than cash refunds.
- Space-A travel on military aircraft is a zero/low-cost alternative — see Space-A travel.
- Book refundable fares when deployment dates are uncertain.
